You hear it before you see it. The chenda drums start a slow march through the trees, and then the performer enters the sacred grove.

How to watch with respect

  • Dress modestly — shoulders covered.
  • Remove shoes before the temple courtyard.
  • Ask the priest before photographing.
  • Stay until the end.
